👋 About Me
I was born in a modest low-income household in Kolkata (India). As a kid I thought my only way out of poverty was either Silicon Valley or Wall Street. So, in my head I made a very grand plan as I did with everything else i.e., somehow get to MIT or IIT, and then at some point HBS/GSB and build a company. All those grand plans didn’t quite work out, but I did end up in Winnipeg (Canada) with about $10K (pretty much all of my family’s life savings). For anyone who has the slightest idea of where I come from, failure wasn’t an option - no safety net, no social security programs, no bailouts, etc.
Over the past (almost) two decades, I went:
-
from being enrolled in the Computer Engineering program to barely getting an undergrad degree
-
from having some food to making trips to the foodbank
-
from working nights at a convenience store to being a judge at a $100K pitch competition
-
from being an outsider in completely new environments to building enduring relationships
-
from being almost homeless to becoming an early employee at a YC-backed startup
Now I think that the most fun path to having an impact at scale is to work at an early-stage startup with sharp people who care about solving massive problems.
💼 Current/Most Recent Role
- Tempo (YC S23) - Managed a $2M pipeline, closed 4 customers ($200K ARR), took garbage out, showed up at investor day presentations to chase prospects, ran sales process end-to-end, leveraged my relationships to book meetings with the top 2 public companies in Canada and several funds/ecosystem partners, etc.
- RBCx - Ran diligence for $xxM debt opportunities, owned a debt product, managed an existing portfolio of 75+ tech companies that generated $2.5M revenue, attended 4-5 events per week to find new clients and build partnerships, etc.
- MCAP - Reconciled accounts, moved $xxM across accounts every single day, learned a lot about the mortgage financing market, etc.
- FSRA - Assisted in preparing Board materials, helped build the foundations of enterprise risk engine, generated insights from 50+ pieces of legislation, etc.
- Various Roles - Worked nights at a convenience store while going to school during the day, learned and taught (at the same time) sports I’d never played growing up at a camp, sold clothes at the mall, stocked shelves at a grocery story while everyone else was asleep, etc.
🚀 Why Startups?
- I’ve uprooted myself twice and ventured into the unknown with nothing. It was a wild fun ride both times.
- I enjoy high velocity environments and solving problems that require stretching beyond limits.
